Europaskolan in Strängnäs
Focus Europe, contact with the community outside the school, a digital learning environment and a historic town campus - four features that go to make up the profile of Europaskolan in Strängnäs. This school represents a solid knowledge base which allows everyone attending to develop their creativity, independence and sense of responsibility.
Europaskolan is a private, non-profit senior high school situated 80 km south-west of Stockholm and attracts students from all over Sweden. What all our students have in common is their above-average grades from their compulsory school careers and a desire to go on learning.
What we have to offer
Europaskolan enhances the identities of its students as European citizens by means of studies of European history and culture, field trips to Athens, Berlin and Brussels, exchange trips to Germany, France, Spain and Italy, and lectures by prominent visitors with broad international experience.
We prepare our students for future university-level studies both in Sweden and abroad. Some courses are developed in cooperation with KTH Royal Institute of Technology and other universities. Occasionally, students are invited to start university courses even during their high school years.
We have invested in a modern computer infrastructure in order to stimulate the development of classroom education and to support students’ team projects and private studies. The school also makes contributions to students’ investments in personal computers.
Europaskolan is located in the heart of the old town, which was founded in the Middle Ages. The different programmes (see below) have their own buildings on the town campus, ranging from Artes, which was built in the early 19th Century, to the very modern Technicum. The school thus provides a peaceful environment which is conducive to learning.
Our programmes
Our five 3-year programmes are all variants on the national Social Sciences or Natural Sciences programmes. Following a comparatively mainstreamed first year, these programmes open up to provide more individual choice as regards direction and depth of study.
The Europe Programme (Social Sciences)
This programme focuses on modern languages, Latin, European history and culture, economics and computer science.
The Economics/Business Administration Programme (Social Sciences)
This programme includes various courses arranged in cooperation with companies in the region. Our students are given the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of language and business law and to enhance their organization and leadership skills. In the second year, student project teams start, run and discontinue companies of their own choice.
The Chemistry/Physics Programme (Natural Sciences)
This programme includes special courses in chemistry, physics and mathematics, designed in cooperation with universities and multinational pharmaceutical companies. Our students can also take on astronomy, Euclidian geometry and gene technology.
The Science Programme (Natural Sciences)
Europaskolan is the only private school in Sweden which holds permission from the Swedish National Agency for Education to run a programme for particularly gifted students and students with a special interest in a subject. By combining courses in mathematics and natural sciences, and thanks to close cooperation with KTH, Södertörns University and Astra Zeneca, our students are prepared for higher education and postgraduate research studies.
The Artes Programmes (Social Sciences or Natural Sciences)
Our ambition here is to develop both the creative and the logical sides of our students, thereby meeting the needs of authorities and companies for versatile staff. Students take art courses combined with theoretical courses in either social or natural sciences.
"Europaskolan spirit"
Europaskolan gives you, or your son or daughter, a unique opportunity to experience a small school set in a culturally rich environment. The school itself promotes a spirit of inspiration and community among students and teaching staff alike. Our students have named this the "Europaskolan spirit".
We focus on individuals. Our teaching staff are highly educated and extremely enthusiastic. Social skills, norms and values are important to us, as are student democracy and extracurricular activities that encourage students to become an active part of student life and provide a positive atmosphere in which they can learn.
